Black latex option

We have taken the decision to remove the option to buy black latex prosthetics. The reason for this is that we have seen too many people wandering round wearing unpainted latex prosthetics and it looks rubbish in our minds.

Feel free to email us for a specific order if you have a need to which this doesn't apply and we can discuss it.

Have a look in the photo albums. We tend to update these here with work in progress pictures, and a wider variety of things than might be found on the website. Feel free to have a poke around and see what we're up to.

3 new prosthetics added : rhino, frog and finch

Forestborn has been updated to a new sculpt....very closely based on the old popular one so little difference

Some top secret hush hush stuff going on with Mandala that should lead to some exciting new products for sale soon - watch this space!

Whilst we're not great at keeping this page updated, there's plenty going on so just drop us a mail, or find us on facebook to talk about a particular costume you're interested in

seems like we don't get any better at updating this page!

Rest assured its because we are spending all our time crafting lovely masks rather than nerding around on the internet..

Lots has happened since the last update - probably the biggest piece has been Mac the Mouse (check the facebook page) which I think is probably the best quality mascot costume I've seen - if anyone wants similar just give us a shout as we've proved we're a dab hand at mascots!

More recently we've been working on some new zombie masks (up and in the prosthetics section) and a fantastic planet of the apes mask which we're very reluctant to let go of - someone needs to commission another one please!

Having just run one of our events we have some cylons to add to the collection - coming to a facebook gallery soon - which we're particularly proud of

Next big project - mainly business as usual at the moment as in lots of standard masks to produce. So if someone is looking for a big project for us to take on, now isn't a bad time to shout before we get busy for Christmas panto stuff

crap we've been slack about updating this....

so hopefully you've noticed that most of our updates have been going on the Facebook page - see the link on the left!

lots of new pics on there - and I'm still being rubbish about updating the shop. Suffice it to say that anything you can see on Facebook you can buy. We'll have a go at making most things and one day they might actually make it into the shop!

recent projects included the Watchmen costumes - Ozymandias and Nite Owl - currently working on horn sets, nasty eye prosthetic, and a few custom weapons

also working on a dragon costume and a set of leather armour for a couple of private commissions

lastly I've just set up Twitter (mandalastudios) - as soon as I've figured out how to use it, it might be worth reading (and will be much more up to date than this news page)

Happy New Year all!

Haven't put up an update for a while so thought I'd let everyone know what we're up to in 2009

Motoring along with orders - quite a few masks on the go but we're also working on some Army of Two style airsoft masks - have done the first prototype and the silicone is curing on the second - watch this space! We're also looking at doing some armour soon which quite a few people have expressed an interest in, More on that when we have it.

What else are we doing.....just taken an order for some horn sets so we'll be adding these to the prosthetic section in the near future. I also have a nice picture of a furred fox to put up in the masks section and a new mask - the Lion - to go up on sale.

We have some zombie bites and a melted face prosthetic to go up and a leper sculpt waiting to be cast

So its all go in 2009! Another potential addition soon are Uruk-hai/Orc style prosthetics.

If you fancy somethign which isn't on here do get in touch and have a chat around whats involved. If you're on a tight budget then tell us what you want to spend so we quote appropriately (ie no point quoting for full silicone head pieces if you've only got £50 to spend!)

Just back from Maelstrom - fun event if a little wet and muddy! Was good to see Lex - the lady who started this all off and who did the original gnoll sculpts amongst others

First experience for me at going to an LRP event and not actually doing any roleplay - bit odd to say the least but actually a nice relaxing weekend of lounging around chatting to people

Hats off to the PD crew for being helpful and keeping us informed - its a pleasure to trade at their events.

Soon to go up on the site is a lion mask (just waiting to be cast) and the walkthrough of our workshop which I did whilst sitting about at the event.

We've put the satyr mask back up - note that its using carved rather than cast horns which is easier although slower. These masks are a pain to do so we've adjusted the price accordingly. I've also added "furred" options to the bear mask which wasn't previously showing up for some reason. You can also see a pic of the leathermaps we do - taken at the event

Lastly I'll put up on here some pics of our stall at the event for those of you who are curious as to what we look like on site!

Bye for now...

Andy

Just added - bear mask and facet prosthetic. Note we don't have any pics of the bear without fur currently but its based on a polar bear.

Still to finish the skunk/ferret due to a delay over airbrush inks but should be done shortly

Our other exciting news is that we've moved into our new workshop in Coventry. The official Mandala address is now Mandala Studios, Unit 9, 4-10 Argyll Street, Coventry, CV2 4FL (visits only by appointment!). We currently building out the interior with worktops, shelves etc but we'll post some pics up when its in a reasonable state

Andy and Wookie

8/07/08

We've added another new section "hands" to showcase some of the hands and claws we do. This isn't all of them but is all the pictures I have to "hand" currently...sorry!

I've also put up a couple of new masks - the Panda and the Cow (there are pictures of both sculpts on our Facebook page in the Work in Progress album : http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mandala-Studios-Props-Costume-and-Special-Effects/7467446695

Lastly we keep getting requests to see what the furred masks look like so I've put up some pics we had handy of a furred cougar and rat (and the cow is also furred). You can see them in their individual sections

We currently finishing off the skunk/ferret piece which should be up to view in the gallery soon and will have a new facet/crystal prosthetic up for sale shortly. Soon to come will be a zombie/undead range

All the best

Andy and Wookie

20/06/08

We've added a new section "other stuff" to showcase the various random things we also sell.

We'll continue to add stuff to here and split things off into their own sections when there's enough to warrant it

If there's something in particular you want, and noone else can get it for you, drop us an email and I'll see what we can do

Andy

P.S. We may be starting on a dragon costume soon for a customer - gonna go all out on that one cos I've wanted to do one for ages!

11/03/08

Phew - very hectic here at the mo....

Trying to get ready for Maelstrom and lots to do! Apart from casting out our weight in gnoll masks, we've also got a couple new sculpts on the go. Expect to see a full face bull and skunk soon plus a bear mask.

If you're at Maelstrom, come by the stall and say hi! Special guest appearance by Sandro! ;)

Andy and Wookie

28/02/08

Site has now been completely rewritten with a database backend - hopefully there's no mistakes but if you spot anything let us know! This will make things easier to update, and ensure consistency between pages

We now have capability to offer furred options so expect those to turn up on various models of mask. We're also looking into flocking to see if its workable

Andy

24/02/08

Lots more masks and pictures up....

After misspent evening watching Transformers and uploading mask pictures we now have 17 masks in the shop.

This is the majority of the masks we have on sale at the moment although there are a couple more still to come once they are cast.

We also still have a few "action" shots of the masks to go up as those always look better than the dull "mask on a bust against a sheet" shot. On that note, if you have pics of you wearing masks that you'd be happy for us to use, please do send them on.

All the best - Andy and Wookie

03/01/08

Happy New Year!

This is Andy from Mandala - having picked up this side of things we thought it would make sense to also update the website.

We've got some new masks which will be going up soon so look out for them along with all the current favourites.

We're also taking commissions for non standard work so expect to see some other work featured on here to give you an idea of some of the other stuff we're doing

So - from everyone at Kangena/Mandala - all the best for 2008!!

Kangena, back in business...

Thanks to the guys at Mandalalrp, Kangena is now taking orders again. You might notice that your paypal orders will be directed to them right now.

Kangena was always intended to be a collaborative endevour and its great that its no longer just me keeping things going.

I've changed the contact address to reflect the new arrangement, so if people could direct mask enquiries to them for now that would be great.

Anyway, be assured that the masks are just the same, painted to the same standards and, yes, you will be able to buy masks at Maelstrom. ;)

22/04/07

Hi, Sandro here.

Well, unfortunately, I've had to do what I tried so hard to avoid - suspend any further orders through Kangena.

It kills me, but answering everyone's e-mails, fulfilling their orders and holding down a job full time has proved a little too much to take on single handed. Its been taking me longer to turn orders around, longer still to reply to your e-mail, and rather than disappoint people I think its better just to call time out till I can get the structure in place to give you the service you deserve.

All existing orders will be fullfilled. Your wonderful, creative, kooky people and I still get a tremendous kick out of seeing my masks worn around the world.

I remain available by e-mail if you wish to get in touch.

Special Notice for players of Maelstrom Larp - I will continue to run the Kangena stall at events! You will be able to place orders in advance by e-mail to pick up. I hope to post further information soon on the Rule 7 forums.

16/03/06

That'll do, Pig..

Another prosthetic is up on sale, the somewhat scary Pig. Ive also gone through the site and started to freshen things up a little.

08/02/06

A few updates...

Sandro here. It's been quite a while since the site was updated, but the shop has been going strong. Ill be full time for the next few months so the online range of masks should steadily expand. I've already added a Duck and Mustelid mask to the prosthetics page.

20/06/04

Technical problems

The website has been suffering a number of problems with its hosting over the past few months. We're happy to say these have now been resolved.

Look out for more updates soon.

11/06/04

Sandro here. Just to say that Kangena's stall at Maelstrom was a success. It was great seeing our masks in action, as well as the brilliant stuff other people had made.

I'll be running the stall at the next event too, with new masks and (provided we can get them approved) weapon claws.

04/03/04

Kangena at Maelstrom

We're happy to announce that we'll have a stall at the first Maelstrom event.

01/01/04

Kangena open for business.

Welcome to our website!

Kangena is a group of creature effects hobbyists and professionals making masks for the love of it.

This site makes it simple for people to buy our masks without having to bother with e-mails and checks through the post.

Be sure to check back over the coming months as we add to our range of masks.
